The Metallica Blacklist, the 2021 covers album celebrating Metallica's The Black Album, contains 53 tracks.
The project was released on September 10, 2021, as part of the 30th-anniversary campaign for Metallica. It gathered interpretations of songs from the 1991 album by more than 50 artists working across rock, pop, country, hip-hop, electronic music, and other styles.
Rather than presenting one conventional tribute performance, the collection expanded each original song into a broad set of stylistic reinterpretations. Contributors included artists such as Miley Cyrus, Elton John, Ghost, Weezer, Alessia Cara, and Juanes, among many others.
All profits from the project were directed to Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation and charities selected by participating artists. The anniversary release is separate from the original 12-track Black Album: its 53 tracks are alternate performances, not additional songs recorded by Metallica for the 1991 studio album.
