The original studio version of Metallica's 1991 album Metallica contains 12 tracks.
The sequence opens with “Enter Sandman” and closes with “The Struggle Within.” Between them are songs including “Sad but True,” “The Unforgiven,” “Wherever I May Roam,” “Nothing Else Matters,” and “My Friend of Misery.”
The original vinyl configuration divided the record into four sides, with three tracks on each side. That layout reflects the album's 12-song structure and differs from later expanded editions that added demos, live performances, and other material.
The number can cause confusion because anniversary and deluxe releases contain substantially more recordings. The 12-track answer refers specifically to the original studio album, not the 2021 expanded box set.
