How many times did Roger Moore play James Bond in official Eon films?

The story behind the answer

Roger Moore played James Bond seven times in official Eon films.

Moore first appeared as 007 in Live and Let Die (1973), replacing Sean Connery after Diamonds Are Forever. He then starred in The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, and A View to a Kill.

His seven-film run made him one of the defining Bond actors and, for many years, the performer with the most official Eon appearances. The films generally presented Bond with a lighter, more humorous tone than the earlier entries, while still retaining espionage, stunts, and elaborate locations. A frequent counting error comes from including non-Eon productions: Sean Connery’s Never Say Never Again is outside the official Eon series, but Moore’s total here counts only his seven Eon films.
