Three teams had previously scored four first-half goals in a Premier League Matchweek 1 before Brighton did so in 2026–27.
Brighton & Hove Albion scored four times in the first 31 minutes of their 4–0 victory over Aston Villa. That performance made Brighton only the fourth side to score four first-half goals in a Premier League opening match.
The three earlier teams were Bolton Wanderers in 2001, Manchester United in 2007 and Liverpool in 2020. Brighton therefore joined a very small group rather than setting the overall record for the biggest opening-weekend win.
Chelsea still held that latter record after beating West Bromwich Albion 6–0 in 2010. Brighton’s 4–0 scoreline was emphatic, but the question concerns first-half goals in Matchweek 1, not the largest winning margin across all opening weekends.
