Metallica’s The Black Album contains 12 studio tracks.
The standard album opens with “Enter Sandman” and closes with “The Struggle Within.” Between them are songs including “Sad but True,” “Holier Than Thou,” “The Unforgiven,” “Wherever I May Roam,” “Nothing Else Matters,” and “My Friend of Misery.”
The track count is sometimes confused with the number of singles or the album’s running time. Metallica released five commercial singles from the record, while the full standard edition runs for about 62 minutes and 40 seconds. Those are separate measurements: the album has twelve tracks, but only five were promoted as commercial singles.
The sequencing also illustrates the record’s range. Heavy songs sit beside the atmospheric “The Unforgiven,” the acoustic-led “Nothing Else Matters,” and the slower, weighty “My Friend of Misery.” That variety helped the album appeal to both longtime metal listeners and new mainstream audiences.
