Beyoncé had released six studio albums before Renaissance.
Renaissance, released in 2022, is Beyoncé’s seventh solo studio album. Her six preceding albums were Dangerously in Love, B’Day, I Am... Sasha Fierce, 4, Beyoncé, and Lemonade.
The album was presented as the first act of a planned three-part project. Its sound draws heavily on house, disco, funk, dance, and Black queer club traditions. The lead single “Break My Soul” became Beyoncé’s first solo number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 since “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” in 2008.
Renaissance earned the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. The number six refers specifically to solo studio albums before Renaissance, not Destiny’s Child albums, live albums, compilations, or collaborative releases.
