The standard edition of Metallica’s 1991 self-titled album contains 12 songs.
The sequence begins with “Enter Sandman” and ends with “The Struggle Within.” Between those tracks are nine other songs, including “Sad but True,” “Holier Than Thou,” “The Unforgiven,” “Wherever I May Roam,” “Don’t Tread on Me,” “Through the Never,” “Nothing Else Matters,” “Of Wolf and Man,” and “My Friend of Misery.”
The 12-track count refers to the original standard album, not later deluxe editions. Expanded reissues and box sets include demos, live recordings, B-sides, and other material, so their total number of tracks is much larger.
On the original vinyl configuration, the 12 tracks were distributed across four sides, with three tracks on each side. The CD edition presented the same core album as one continuous program lasting more than an hour.
