Two promoted clubs won their first 2026–27 Premier League match.
Hull City defeated Manchester United 2–0 at home, while Ipswich Town beat Sunderland 2–1 at Portman Road. Both clubs therefore began life back in the top flight with victories and three points.
The third promoted club, Coventry City, lost 3–0 away to defending champions Arsenal in the season’s opening match. Coventry’s return was still historically important because the club had been absent from the Premier League for 25 years.
The three promoted teams were Coventry City, Hull City and Ipswich Town. They replaced the relegated clubs from the previous campaign and formed the new group of top-flight arrivals for 2026–27. Because two won and one lost, the opening weekend gave the promoted clubs a combined record of two victories and one defeat.
