Ten Premier League matches were played across the 2026–27 opening weekend from 21 to 24 August 2026.
The round began with Arsenal against Coventry City on Friday 21 August. Six matches followed on Saturday, including Hull City against Manchester United, and two were played on Sunday. The round concluded with Fulham hosting Chelsea on Monday 24 August.
A standard Premier League matchweek contains ten fixtures because the competition has 20 clubs and each club plays once in the round. The opening round was spread across four calendar days rather than being completed over Saturday and Sunday alone.
The schedule included nine matches before the final Monday fixture. This is why counting only Friday-to-Sunday games produces the wrong total. The full round also included the 3–2 Chelsea win at Fulham.
