The Premier League had 20 clubs in the 2026–27 season, so a complete round in which every club played once contained 10 fixtures. The opening round ran from Friday 21 August to Monday 24 August 2026.
The schedule included one match on Friday, five on Saturday, three on Sunday and one on Monday. This distribution meant that the first round was commonly called an opening weekend even though it extended beyond Saturday and Sunday.
Ten matches is different from the number of calendar days involved. The round used four dates, but it still contained the standard 10 fixtures required for all 20 clubs to play. Across a full 38-match Premier League season, each club plays 38 league matches, producing 380 matches overall.
