How many points did Liverpool earn in the 2019-20 Premier League?

The story behind the answer

Liverpool earned 99 points in the 2019–20 Premier League. That total secured the club’s first Premier League title and ended a 30-year wait for an English top-flight championship.

Managed by Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool won 32 of their 38 matches, drew three and lost three. They clinched the title with seven matches still to play, an unusually early confirmation that reflected their extraordinary consistency. Their 99 points were also Liverpool’s highest total in the Premier League.

The tally was one point short of Manchester City’s record 100-point season in 2017–18. That comparison causes a common mix-up: Liverpool’s 2019–20 total was 99, while City’s record was 100. Liverpool also finished 18 points ahead of second-placed Manchester City, despite City having won the previous two league titles.

The season was interrupted for roughly three months by the COVID-19 pandemic, but Liverpool returned to complete the campaign and lift the trophy. Their 32 victories equalled Manchester City’s record for wins in a Premier League season at that time.
