Four players from each team are on court in Paralympic wheelchair rugby.
Wheelchair rugby is played indoors on a basketball-sized court, with four athletes per team active at one time. Teams may use substitutions during the match, so a squad can contain more players than the four on court.
The sport is a mixed-gender team game for athletes with eligible impairments affecting at least three limbs. Players use a classification system based on functional ability, and each athlete receives a point value. The total classification value of the four players on court must stay within the competition limit.
Wheelchair rugby was known as murderball before it adopted its current official name. It differs from wheelchair basketball because players carry a volleyball and score by crossing the opponent’s goal line rather than shooting into a basket.
