Each Quidditch team in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter world has seven players.
A team consists of three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker. The Chasers handle the Quaffle, the Beaters defend teammates and disrupt opponents with Bludgers, the Keeper guards the goal hoops, and the Seeker pursues the Golden Snitch.
The sport is played on broomsticks and uses three types of magical balls. A goal with the Quaffle is worth 10 points, while catching the Golden Snitch awards 150 points and usually ends the match. Because the Snitch is so valuable, the Seeker’s role can dominate the result.
Real-world versions of the sport were inspired by Rowling’s books but changed important rules and equipment. Some renamed organizations now use terms such as quadball. Those adaptations should not be confused with the seven-player fictional game described in the novels.
