WALL-E received six Oscar nominations.
At the 81st Academy Awards, honoring films released in 2008, WALL-E was nominated for Best Animated Feature, Original Screenplay, Original Score, Original Song, Sound Editing, and Sound Mixing. It won Best Animated Feature, giving Pixar another major victory while also showing how strongly the film was recognized outside animation.
The screenplay nomination was notable because animated films were rarely acknowledged in that category. WALL-E’s sound-related nominations also reflected the importance of its expressive effects and largely nonverbal storytelling; sound designer Ben Burtt helped create the robot’s voices, movements, and mechanical personality.
A frequent confusion concerns Best Picture. WALL-E was widely discussed as a potential Best Picture contender, but it was not nominated in that category. The six-count refers to its actual Oscar nominations, not every award nomination it received: the film earned many more nominations from organizations such as the Annie Awards and Golden Globes.
