Newly promoted teams won two matches in the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
Hull City defeated Manchester United 2–0, while Ipswich Town defeated Sunderland 2–1. Both victories came on Saturday 22 August 2026 and gave two returning clubs immediate wins in the top flight.
Coventry City were the other newly promoted team in the opening round, but Arsenal beat them 3–0. The result means all three promoted clubs played on Matchweek 1, but only two recorded victories.
This was the second successive season in which two promoted teams won their opening matches. It is important to count victories rather than promoted clubs: Hull and Ipswich won, Coventry did not. The total also does not include Leeds United, who beat Nottingham Forest 1–0; Leeds were competing in the Premier League but were not among the newly promoted clubs identified for this season.
