How many minutes did Brighton need to score four first-half goals against Aston Villa in 2026–27?

The story behind the answer

Brighton needed 31 minutes to score four first-half goals against Aston Villa in the 2026–27 Premier League opening round. Brighton eventually won 4–0 at home on 23 August 2026.

Jack Hinshelwood scored twice in just 79 seconds as Brighton raced into a commanding lead. Maxim De Cuyper added another goal, and Aston Villa defender Victor Lindelöf scored an own goal. Brighton’s four-goal burst was complete by the 31st minute.

The performance placed Brighton among only four teams to score four first-half goals in a Premier League Matchweek 1. The other teams listed for that achievement were Bolton Wanderers in 2001, Manchester United in 2007 and Liverpool in 2020. Villa’s afternoon worsened when João Gomes was sent off before half-time.
