Brighton & Hove Albion needed 31 minutes to score four goals against Aston Villa in 2026–27 Matchweek 1.
Brighton’s 4–0 victory at the Amex Stadium on 23 August 2026 was effectively decided before the interval. The Seagulls scored four times in the opening 31 minutes, creating one of the most dramatic starts of the season.
The match became even harder for Aston Villa when João Gomes received a straight red card just before half-time. Brighton did not need to add to the score after the interval, and the final margin remained 4–0.
The achievement stands out historically because Brighton became only the fourth side to score four first-half goals in a Premier League opening Matchweek 1 game. Bolton Wanderers did it in 2001, Manchester United in 2007 and Liverpool in 2020.
