Ten matches were scheduled for the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
The first Match Round ran from Friday, 21 August through Monday, 24 August 2026. One match was scheduled on Friday, five on Saturday, three on Sunday and one on Monday, producing the full set of ten fixtures played by the division’s 20 clubs.
The opening round began with Arsenal v Coventry City. Saturday included Hull City v Manchester United, Everton v Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town v Sunderland, Nottingham Forest v Leeds United and Brentford v Tottenham Hotspur. Sunday featured Brighton & Hove Albion v Aston Villa, Manchester City v Bournemouth and Newcastle United v Liverpool, followed by Fulham v Chelsea on Monday.
A Premier League round normally contains ten matches because the competition has 20 clubs and each team plays once per round. The unusual spread across four days reflected broadcast planning and Brighton’s European qualification commitments.
