Ten matches were played in the first 2026–27 Premier League match round.
That total followed the standard 20-team league structure: every club played once, producing 10 fixtures. The round began with Arsenal versus Coventry City on Friday 21 August 2026 and ended with Fulham versus Chelsea on Monday 24 August.
The schedule was spread across four days rather than confined to Saturday and Sunday. There was one Friday match, six Saturday matches, three Sunday matches, and one Monday match in the published opening-round arrangement.
The wording “match round” is useful because the round extended beyond a conventional weekend. Broadcasters and the league still described the group as the opening weekend, but the final fixture took place on Monday evening. No club played twice in the round, and all 20 teams were represented exactly once.
