How many Laureus World Sportsman awards has Djokovic won?

The story behind the answer

Novak Djokovic has won five Laureus World Sportsman of the Year awards.

His five victories came in 2012, 2015, 2016, 2019 and 2024. The awards recognize sporting achievement from the preceding year and are voted for by the Laureus World Sports Academy, an international group of celebrated former athletes. Djokovic’s 2024 win honored his outstanding 2023 season.

That fifth award tied Roger Federer’s record for the most Laureus World Sportsman of the Year victories. Djokovic’s first win followed his extraordinary 2011 campaign, when he won three Grand Slam singles titles and became world No. 1 for the first time.

The number five refers specifically to the Sportsman of the Year category, not every Laureus category or every nomination. Djokovic has also been nominated in other years, including 2021 and 2022, but a nomination is not an additional victory. This distinction explains why lists that count nominations can produce a different total.
