Genesis describes eight human survivors leaving Noah’s Ark after the Flood.
The group consists of Noah, his wife, his three sons—Shem, Ham, and Japheth—and the three wives of those sons. Together, these eight people are presented as the human family preserved through the Flood. Genesis 7:13 describes them entering the ark, and later passages describe the survivors leaving it.
The number is also reflected in the New Testament, where 1 Peter 3:20 refers to “eight souls” being saved through water in the days of Noah. The figure is therefore a recurring detail in Christian readings of the ark narrative.
The eight survivors do not include the animals, which are counted separately in the story. Popular artwork may show additional people around the ark, but the Genesis account names only Noah’s immediate family as human passengers who survive.
