First Peter says that eight human beings were saved through the Flood waters with Noah.
First Peter 3:20 refers to “eight souls” being brought safely through water. This count includes Noah, his wife, their three sons, and the three wives of those sons, making eight people in total.
The number is consistent with the human survivors listed or implied in Genesis. Genesis names Noah’s sons as Shem, Ham, and Japheth and describes each as having a wife. Noah’s own wife is not given a personal name in the biblical text.
Later traditions assign names to Noah’s wife and the sons’ wives, but those names vary by religious and cultural source. The number eight, however, is the specific figure stated in First Peter and is not the same as the number of animals aboard the Ark.
