“Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” won three Grammy Awards in 2010.
The song appeared on Beyoncé’s 2008 album I Am... Sasha Fierce and was released as a single in October 2008. It became one of her signature songs, driven by a chant-like chorus, an upbeat dance-pop and R&B production, and the repeated “uh-oh” vocal hook.
At the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards on January 31, 2010, the song won Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song, and Song of the Year. The three wins recognized Beyoncé’s vocal performance, the songwriting, and the composition as a whole.
The accompanying black-and-white music video, directed by Jake Nava, became equally influential because of its sharply synchronized choreography. The video won three MTV Video Music Awards in 2009, a separate achievement from the song’s Grammy total.
