How many floors does Shanghai Tower have?

The story behind the answer

Shanghai Tower has 128 floors above ground.

The supertall skyscraper stands in Lujiazui, Shanghai's financial district, beside the Jin Mao Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center. Its twisting, rounded form was designed by the American architectural firm Gensler, with Marshall Strabala serving as design director during the project.

The tower's double-skin façade creates an outer layer around the occupied building, helping form sky gardens and sheltered spaces. Its vertical arrangement includes offices, hotels, cultural facilities, observation areas and retail spaces rather than a single use.

Shanghai Tower was topped out in 2013 and opened in 2015. It reaches 632 metres, making it one of the world's tallest completed buildings. Its 128 above-ground floors should not be confused with its additional underground levels, which serve functions including transport connections, parking and building services.
