How many floors did Genesis say Noah’s Ark had?

The story behind the answer

Genesis says Noah’s Ark had three floors. Genesis 6:16 instructs Noah to make the vessel with lower, second, and third decks, along with a window and a door in its side.

The three-level design follows the Ark’s stated purpose: to hold Noah’s family, representatives of animal kinds, and provisions during the Flood. The text gives the vessel a large capacity but does not provide a modern engineering plan showing how every animal or storage area was arranged.

The same verse also gives the Ark’s overall proportions: 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. Because the biblical cubit has no universally fixed modern equivalent, estimates of its total internal volume vary.

Illustrations often show the Ark with many small compartments or several visible decks, but those details are artistic reconstructions. The explicit biblical number is three floors, not a specified number of rooms, cages, or animal stalls.
