How many draws were recorded during the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend?

The story behind the answer

There was one draw during the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.

The stalemate was Newcastle United’s 2–2 home draw with Liverpool on Sunday, 23 August 2026. Every other opening-round fixture produced a winner, so only those two clubs shared points without a winning side.

The round contained ten matches spread across four days. Arsenal, Hull City, Ipswich Town, Everton, Brentford, Brighton, Manchester City, Leeds United and Chelsea all won their respective fixtures. That left Newcastle and Liverpool as the only teams to take one point each.

A useful distinction is between draws and close results. Several matches had one-goal margins, including Manchester City’s 2–1 win over Bournemouth and Chelsea’s 3–2 win at Fulham, but neither was a draw. Only the Newcastle–Liverpool score finished level.
