How many days did Threads take to reach 100 million users after its 2023 launch?

The story behind the answer

Threads took five days to reach 100 million users after its 2023 launch.

Meta launched Threads in July 2023 as a text-focused social network connected closely to Instagram. Because people could sign in with Instagram accounts and use an existing social identity, the service gained users unusually quickly. Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said Threads passed the 100-million-user milestone within five days.

The figure referred to sign-ups or users who had joined the service, not necessarily people using Threads every day. Those measurements are different: registration can happen quickly, while active use depends on how often people return and post.

Threads is sometimes confused with Instagram’s older text and messaging features. It was a separate app and service, though Meta integrated its account system and discovery features with Instagram. Its launch also made Threads one of the fastest-growing consumer internet services by reported registration milestone.
