The 2026–27 Premier League season was scheduled to begin 33 days after the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
The World Cup final was scheduled for 19 July 2026, while the Premier League’s opening match was set for 21 August 2026. Counting the interval between those dates gives 33 days.
The delayed start reflected the expanded 48-team World Cup and the need to provide players with a longer recovery period after the tournament. The league described the opening as one week later than usual.
The 33-day figure is an interval between dates, not the number of calendar days including both endpoints. It also should not be confused with the 89 clear days between the end of the previous Premier League season and the new season’s start.
