Beyoncé had seven consecutive number-one albums on the Billboard 200 when Renaissance was released. The album debuted at number one in the United States in August 2022.
Renaissance extended a chart streak that began with Dangerously in Love in 2003. It was followed by B’Day, I Am... Sasha Fierce, 4, Beyoncé, and Lemonade, all of which also reached number one on the Billboard 200.
The achievement made Beyoncé the first female artist to have her first seven studio albums debut at number one on the chart. Renaissance was presented as “act i” of a planned trilogy and drew heavily on dance, disco, house, and queer club traditions.
The album’s lead single, “Break My Soul,” became Beyoncé’s first solo number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 since “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” in 2008. Renaissance later won the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album.
