How many compute units are in the Xbox Series X graphics processor?

The story behind the answer

The Xbox Series X graphics processor contains 52 compute units.

Microsoft built the Series X around a custom AMD graphics processor using the RDNA 2 architecture. The 52 compute units operate at a stated 1.825 GHz, producing the console’s advertised 12 teraflops of shader performance.

This hardware helped Xbox Series X target high-resolution gaming, including native 4K output in supported titles. The console also combines the GPU with a custom eight-core Zen 2 CPU, fast GDDR6 memory, and a solid-state drive to reduce loading times.

The 52-compute-unit specification applies to Xbox Series X, not Xbox Series S. The smaller Series S uses a different custom GPU with 20 compute units and lower overall graphics performance, so the two consoles should not be treated as having identical internals.
