Three clubs promoted from the Championship appeared in the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
The promoted clubs were Coventry City, Ipswich Town and Hull City. Coventry opened the season away to defending champions Arsenal, Ipswich hosted Sunderland and Hull hosted Manchester United.
All three promoted sides therefore played in the first round, rather than being separated across later matchweeks. Hull and Ipswich won their fixtures, while Coventry lost 3–0 at Arsenal.
The three clubs had different routes back to the top flight. Coventry returned after a 25-year absence, Ipswich after one year, and Hull after nine years. Their inclusion reflected the three-team promotion system used between the Championship and Premier League.
