There were 89 clear days between the end of the 2025–26 Premier League season and the 2026–27 opener.
The Premier League deliberately began the new campaign later than usual because the 2026 FIFA World Cup occupied the summer calendar. The World Cup final was played on 19 July 2026, and the league opening match followed on 21 August at the Emirates Stadium.
The league’s official schedule explained that the delayed start allowed 89 clear days from the end of the previous season. It also allowed 33 days from the World Cup final to the new Premier League campaign, giving players and clubs a longer transition period after the expanded international tournament.
The 2026–27 season consisted of 33 weekend rounds and five midweek Match Rounds. Its final day was scheduled for Sunday, 30 May 2027, with all matches beginning at 16:00. The 89-day figure refers specifically to the gap from the preceding Premier League season’s conclusion, not to the time between the World Cup final and the opener.
