How many cards were in Topps’ original 1977 Star Wars trading-card set?

The story behind the answer

Topps’ original 1977 Star Wars trading-card set contained 330 cards.

Topps released the cards to coincide with the first Star Wars film. The set combined film stills, artwork, character images, story moments and puzzle-style card backs. Its blue-border design became one of the most recognizable pieces of early Star Wars merchandise.

The cards were sold in wax packs, commonly with a stick of chewing gum. Because the set was issued during the film’s first wave of popularity, surviving cards and unopened packs became important collectibles. Topps continued producing Star Wars card sets for later films and expanded the format with stickers, inserts and autograph cards.

Collectors sometimes confuse the original 1977 set with later Topps issues, including the 1977 Star Wars stickers and the larger sets made for The Empire Strikes Back. The 330-card total refers specifically to the first major Topps Star Wars trading-card set.
