Fifty-three artists contributed to The Metallica Blacklist, the 2021 tribute to The Black Album.
The collection was assembled for the original album's 30th anniversary and features covers of every track from Metallica. Because many songs appear in multiple interpretations, the tribute is a multi-artist project rather than a simple one-cover-per-song compilation.
The participating musicians came from a wide range of styles, including rock, pop, country, blues, punk, rap, electronic music, and Latin trap. This variety was intended to show how broadly The Black Album had influenced musicians beyond traditional heavy metal.
The digital edition was released on September 10, 2021, the same day as the expanded remastered edition of Metallica. Physical editions followed on October 1. Half of the proceeds from each song went to Metallica's All Within My Hands Foundation, while the other half went to a charity selected by the contributing artist.
