How many Academy Awards did Rocky win? Rocky won three Academy Awards. At the 49th Academy Awards in 1977, the film won Best Picture, Best Director for John G. Avildsen, and Best Film Editing for Richard Halsey and Scott Conrad.
Rocky was nominated in 10 categories, including Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay for Sylvester Stallone, Best Actress for Talia Shire, and Best Original Song for “Gonna Fly Now.” Its three victories made it one of the ceremony’s major successes, even though Network and All the President’s Men each won four awards.
A common mix-up is confusing Rocky’s three wins with the total Academy Awards won across the broader Rocky franchise. The series has accumulated additional nominations, but the original 1976 film itself won exactly three Oscars. Its Best Picture victory was especially notable because it beat films such as Network, Taxi Driver, and All the President’s Men.
