Ten matches were played across the four-day 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
The opening round began with one match on Friday, 21 August 2026: Arsenal versus Coventry City. Saturday contained five fixtures, including Hull City versus Manchester United, while Sunday featured three matches, including Newcastle United versus Liverpool.
The round concluded with one Monday fixture, Fulham versus Chelsea, bringing the total to ten. This distribution produced the usual one match for each of the 20 Premier League clubs, with every team playing once in Matchweek 1.
The total follows the league’s basic structure: 20 clubs form ten fixtures in a complete opening round. It is easy to answer nine if the Monday game is overlooked, or eleven if a match from the following midweek round is included. The “four days” wording is important because the round did not fit entirely into Saturday and Sunday.
