Three 2026–27 Premier League opening-weekend matches involved newly promoted clubs.
Coventry City played Arsenal on Friday, Hull City hosted Manchester United on Saturday, and Ipswich Town hosted Sunderland later that Saturday. Those were the three matches featuring the season’s promoted teams.
Coventry, Hull and Ipswich had all come up from the Championship. Coventry lost 3–0, while Hull won 2–0 and Ipswich won 2–1. Thus, two of the three promoted clubs won their opening fixtures.
The total can be confused with the number of promoted clubs that won, which was two. It can also be confused with the total number of opening-round matches: the full Matchweek contained ten fixtures, spread from Friday through Monday.
