How long did the longest Grand Slam final in history, won by Djokovic, last?
Answer
5 hours 53 minutes
Answer
5 hours 53 minutes
The longest Grand Slam final won by Djokovic lasted 5 hours 53 minutes. It was the 2012 Australian Open men's singles final, in which Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal 5–7, 6–4, 6–2, 6–7, 7–5.
Played on 29 January 2012, the final became an extraordinary test of endurance between two of the sport's greatest rivals. Nadal won the opening set, but Djokovic recovered and took the next two. Nadal forced a fourth-set tiebreak, setting up a deciding fifth set that remained fiercely contested until Djokovic broke late and served out the match.
The contest ended at 1:37 a.m. local time, and both players needed chairs during the trophy presentation because of exhaustion. It was the longest Australian Open match and, at the time, the longest major singles final ever played. It is often confused with the longest tennis match overall, a separate record held by the 2010 Wimbledon match between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut.
