How high is the superfence at Glastonbury in feet?

The story behind the answer

The Glastonbury superfence is 12 feet high. It was introduced around the festival site to control unauthorised entry and prevent a repeat of the severe overcrowding seen at the 2000 event.

The fence became central to Glastonbury’s modern history. Before it was installed, large numbers of people entered without tickets, creating serious security, sanitation and crowd-management problems. The 2001 festival was then skipped while organisers reorganised the event and strengthened its security arrangements.

The 12-foot structure was part of a wider redesign for the festival’s return in 2002. That edition used a substantial perimeter fence, improved ticket controls and more formal logistics. The changes reduced the number of gatecrashers and helped the festival operate at a controlled capacity.

The superfence is sometimes confused with the festival’s much larger perimeter or described simply as a wall. It is a specialist security barrier surrounding the main event area, not a feature of the Pyramid Stage or a measurement of the entire site.
