Taylor Swift’s “august” reached number 23 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
The song entered the chart on the issue dated August 8, 2020, shortly after Folklore was surprise-released on July 24. It remained on the Hot 100 for two consecutive weeks, an impressive result for an album track that was not issued as one of Folklore’s official singles.
“august” had a strong chart debut because Folklore generated enormous listening activity across its tracklist. The song later became especially seasonal, with streams and online attention rising around the beginning of August each year.
Some listeners confuse its Hot 100 position with its peak on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, where it reached number five. It also later achieved a number 46 peak on the Billboard Global 200, a separate worldwide chart.
