GivingTuesday, often styled #GivingTuesday, falls after which U.S. holiday?

The story behind the answer

GivingTuesday, often styled #GivingTuesday, falls after Thanksgiving in the United States. It is observed on the Tuesday following the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, placing it after the shopping events Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday.

The movement began in 2012 through New York City's 92nd Street Y, with support from the United Nations Foundation and the organization BLK SHP. Its goal was to create a day focused on charitable giving and community action after the commercial emphasis of the Thanksgiving weekend.

GivingTuesday is not a federal holiday, and it is not tied to one fixed calendar date. Because Thanksgiving occurs on the fourth Thursday of November, GivingTuesday can fall anywhere from November 27 through December 3. A common mix-up is confusing it with Giving Tuesday-style fundraising events held on other dates by individual organizations.
