From which Kennedy Space Center launch complex did SpaceX launch Crew Dragon Demo-2 in May 2020?
Answer
Launch Complex 39A
Answer
Launch Complex 39A
SpaceX launched Crew Dragon Demo-2 from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in May 2020.
Launch Complex 39A, often abbreviated LC-39A, is a historic launch site at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. NASA originally built it for the Saturn V rocket used in the Apollo lunar missions and later adapted it for Space Shuttle launches.
SpaceX began leasing LC-39A from NASA in 2014 and modified the pad for Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy operations. The site’s first SpaceX launch was the Falcon Heavy test flight in February 2018, which carried Elon Musk’s Tesla Roadster.
Crew Dragon Demo-2 launched from LC-39A on 30 May 2020, carrying NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley to the International Space Station. The mission was the first crewed orbital flight launched from U.S. soil since the Space Shuttle era. SpaceX also uses Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral, but LC-39A is the company’s principal Florida pad for crewed launches.
