#FridaysForFuture grew from protests by which Swedish climate activist?
Answer
Greta Thunberg
Answer
Greta Thunberg
#FridaysForFuture grew from protests by Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg. In August 2018, at age 15, Thunberg began sitting outside the Swedish Parliament with a sign reading “School Strike for Climate,” demanding stronger action on climate change.
Her solitary protest initially took place every school day before Sweden's 2018 election. After the election, she continued striking on Fridays, helping inspire the name Fridays for Future. Students in other countries copied the action, turning it into an international youth climate movement.
The movement became especially visible during coordinated global climate strikes in 2019. Thunberg also addressed major international audiences, including the United Nations Climate Action Summit. A common mix-up is treating Fridays for Future as a campaign founded by a large organization; its worldwide network grew organically from Thunberg's individual school strike and the participation of local student groups.
