Elements of code from Bungie’s original Blam engine are preserved in Halo: Campaign Evolved.
Although the remake uses Unreal Engine 5 for its graphics front end and other modern systems, Halo Studios retained parts of the older Blam technology. The preserved code helps support the distinctive physics and computer-controlled enemy behavior associated with Combat Evolved.
Blam began as Bungie’s proprietary Halo technology and was iterated across later games by Bungie and 343 Industries. It is not simply a rendering package: its legacy includes the simulation and gameplay foundations that influence movement, weapons, vehicles, encounters, and enemy reactions.
The result is a hybrid approach rather than a straightforward Unreal conversion. Modern Unreal tools provide the visual and development framework, while selected Halo technology remains underneath to preserve the franchise’s characteristic combat feel. The answer is “Blam,” not Slipspace, even though Slipspace was the name associated with the technology used for Halo Infinite.
