Crash Bash supports up to four human players with a PlayStation Multitap. Released for the original PlayStation in 2000, the game expanded Crash Bandicoot into a competitive party-game format built around short arena challenges.
The standard PlayStation had only two controller ports, so the Multitap accessory was required to connect four controllers. Crash Bash supports four-player matches in several minigames, including Tank Wars, Polar Push, Crate Crush and Ballistix. The accessory increased the number of available controllers; it did not turn the game into an online multiplayer title.
A common mix-up is confusing the maximum number of human players with the number used in Adventure mode. Adventure mode can be played by one or two people cooperatively, while the broader multiplayer feature supports four human participants. The game also includes computer-controlled opponents, so a match can feel more crowded than the number of connected players suggests. Crash Bash was developed by Eurocom and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, making it a notable PlayStation-era spin-off rather than a mainline platformer.
