Brighton beat Aston Villa by four goals in their 2026–27 Premier League opening-weekend match.
Brighton won 4–0 at home on 23 August 2026, producing the biggest home victory of the opening round. They scored all four goals during the first 31 minutes, giving the match an unusually one-sided opening.
Aston Villa were reduced to 10 players, which helped Brighton maintain control during the decisive spell. Brighton did not add to their total after half-time, but the four-goal first half was already enough to secure a commanding victory.
The performance made Brighton only the fourth team to score four first-half goals in a Premier League Matchweek 1. The earlier examples were Bolton Wanderers in 2001, Manchester United in 2007 and Liverpool in 2020.
