Brisbane lies at the centre of which Queensland region?
Answer
South East Queensland
Answer
South East Queensland
Brisbane lies at the centre of South East Queensland. The region combines the Brisbane metropolitan area with surrounding urban, coastal and hinterland communities in Queensland’s southeast.
South East Queensland is not simply another name for Brisbane. It is a broader biogeographical and urban region extending along the coast and inland from the Queensland–New South Wales border toward the Sunshine Coast and nearby ranges. Brisbane is its principal city and the region’s major administrative, economic and transport hub.
The region’s geography is shaped by the Brisbane River, Moreton Bay, the Pacific Ocean and mountain ranges including the D’Aguilar and Taylor ranges. It also contains major natural areas such as the Gondwana Rainforests and the Glass House Mountains. The combination of river floodplains, coastal settlements and forested uplands gives the region a varied landscape.
The wrong options name other Queensland regions. Darling Downs lies inland to Brisbane’s west, Central Queensland is farther north, and Far North Queensland includes areas around Cairns and the tropical north. South East Queensland is the regional label that places Brisbane within the state’s southeastern urban corridor.
