Between which months and years did Metallica record The Black Album?
Answer
October 1990 to June 1991
Answer
October 1990 to June 1991
Metallica recorded The Black Album from October 1990 to June 1991.
The sessions lasted roughly eight months and took place primarily at One on One Recording Studios in Los Angeles. The band also worked briefly at Little Mountain Sound Studios in Vancouver, with further overdubbing and mixing at A&M Studios in Hollywood.
This period followed the writing of most of the album's songs in mid-1990. Producer Bob Rock encouraged the group to record as a unit rather than constructing rhythm parts separately, a change from some of the band's earlier working methods.
The recording timeline is easy to confuse with the album's release date. Metallica arrived on August 12, 1991, several weeks after the sessions had finished, while “Enter Sandman” was released as a single during the final stage of the album's rollout.
