At which stadium was Arsenal versus Coventry City played on the 2026–27 Premier League opening day?

The story behind the answer

Arsenal versus Coventry City was played at Emirates Stadium on the 2026–27 Premier League opening day.

The match took place on Friday 21 August 2026, when Arsenal began their title defence against newly promoted Coventry City. Emirates Stadium is Arsenal’s home ground in Holloway, north London, and has been the club’s principal stadium since 2006.

Arsenal won the opening fixture 3–0. The venue therefore hosted both the first match of the season and the first home performance by the defending champions in their new campaign. It was also the setting for Coventry’s return to Premier League football after 25 years outside the top flight.

The stadium is often referred to simply as “the Emirates.” It replaced Highbury, Arsenal’s historic former home, and is one of the largest football stadiums in London. Other opening-weekend matches were staged at grounds including the MKM Stadium, the Etihad Stadium, Craven Cottage and St James’ Park.
