SpaceX develops and launches Starship at Starbase in southern Texas.
Starbase is SpaceX’s private launch and development site near Boca Chica Village and Brownsville, close to the Gulf of Mexico. The location includes manufacturing areas, test stands, launch infrastructure and landing-zone facilities for the Starship-Super Heavy system.
SpaceX began building the site in the late 2010s, initially calling it the Boca Chica launch site. The company later used the name Starbase for the broader industrial and launch complex. Its coastal position provides an open flight path over the Gulf for many test trajectories.
Starbase is different from SpaceX’s McGregor facility, which is primarily used for engine and rocket-stage testing. It is also separate from the company’s Florida launch sites, where Falcon vehicles and some Starship operations are handled. The names Boca Chica and Starbase may therefore appear together in coverage.
